1 Overview

WonderBrush β€” Magic Art Studio is a touch-first digital art studio that runs right in a web browser on iPads and Chromebooks, with nothing to install. Children paint, stamp, and build kaleidoscope pictures with playful "magic" tools, then celebrate and save their work. It nurtures visual arts & creative expression first, while quietly building digital-tool literacy and a hands-on math thread around symmetry.

The 10 Magic Brushes

Tapping a brush changes how a finger-stroke looks on the canvas. Marker lays down a smooth line; Rainbow cycles colors along the stroke; Sparkle draws a line and sprinkles twinkling stars; Neon glows like an electric wire; Bubbles leaves a trail of soft bubbles; Galaxy paints a cosmic violet-to-cyan ribbon dotted with tiny stars; Crayon adds a waxy texture; Splatter scatters paint dots; Firework launches a rocket on tap that flies up and bursts; and the Eraser gently removes. Trying each brush is the child's first act of choosing a tool for an idea.

The 12 Sticker Stamps

A single tap places a stamp β€” star, heart, rainbow, butterfly, flower, rocket, cat, dino, sun, unicorn, ice-cream, or ball β€” each with a slight random tilt so no two look identical. When symmetry is switched on, one tap places several stamps at once around the canvas, so a child can build a wreath or burst pattern instantly.

"Magic" Symmetry (1 / 2 / 6 / 12)

This is the signature feature and the heart of the math connection. With symmetry set to 2, 6, or 12, a single finger-stroke is mirrored into that many rotational copies around the center of the canvas, instantly turning a squiggle into kaleidoscope or mandala art. A first-time coach prompts "Draw one line and watch!" and faint ghost "mirror spokes" preview the axes so children can see where their line will echo.

Color Palette & Custom Color Picker

Children paint from 12 preset color swatches or open a full-spectrum color wheel to mix any custom shade. Some brushes β€” Rainbow, Galaxy, and the Eraser β€” make their own colors, so the palette gently dims to quietly show that color choice isn't used with that tool.

Size S / M / L

Three size buttons change how thick a brush paints or how big a stamp lands, shown with a live preview dot or mini-stamp so a child can see the change before committing to the canvas.

7 Background Scenes

A picture can begin on Paper, Night, Meadow, Ocean, Space, Sunset, or Chalkboard. These are gently animated "living scenes" β€” stars twinkle, ocean bubbles rise, meadow pollen drifts β€” so the setting itself invites a story before the first stroke.

Undo, Clear, New Picture & Autosave

Undo steps back one action; Clear asks "Tap again to clear!" so a picture is never wiped by accident; and New Picture starts fresh. Behind the scenes, work is autosaved and comes back after a reload, so a child never loses a picture β€” a safe place to experiment freely.

Creative Sparks

Optional, open-ended idea prompts β€” like "Invent a brand new animal nobody has seen," "Use three colors to invent a flower," "Build a rocket using stamps and neon," or "Finish today's silly squiggle" β€” offer a starting point without a right answer. There is no scoring; a "New idea" button simply shuffles to a fresh Spark.

My Sticker Book (Gallery)

Pressing the big TA-DA! button celebrates with confetti and a fanfare and saves the finished picture as a thumbnail in a gallery, tagged with the Spark it answered. Saved pictures can be revisited, downloaded, or deleted β€” the child curates their own collection.

Save / Download & Sound

Any picture can be saved and downloaded as a PNG image to keep or share. Friendly, synthesized sound effects accompany the tools, with a mute toggle for quiet classrooms.

Note: WonderBrush is primarily a visual-arts tool. The computer-science standards above are addressed through the child's real, purposeful use of the digital tool β€” selecting software, and storing, modifying, and troubleshooting their own work.

Grades K–1

My Living-Scene Story

Objective: Choose a scene and a brush on purpose, make marks that tell a small story, and save the picture β€” practicing selecting and operating software to do a task.

Steps

  1. Open WonderBrush and pick a background scene β€” try Meadow or Ocean β€” and watch it gently move.
  2. Choose the Marker brush and a color swatch, then draw one big thing from your scene (a sun, a fish, a flower).
  3. Switch to the Sparkle or Bubbles brush and add a little magic around it.
  4. Tap two or three stamps (say, flower and butterfly) and set Size to L for a big one, S for a tiny one.
  5. If something isn't right, press Undo β€” no worry, your work is autosaved.
  6. Press the big TA-DA! button to celebrate and save your picture to My Sticker Book.

Magic Mirror Mandalas

Objective: Use the Magic symmetry tool to explore lines of symmetry, predicting and observing how one stroke is mirrored into matching parts around a center.

Steps

  1. Start on the Night scene and set Magic symmetry to 2 β€” notice the faint ghost "mirror spokes" showing where your line will echo.
  2. Predict first: before drawing, guess where a copy of your line will appear. Then draw one curve with the Neon brush and check.
  3. Change symmetry to 6, then 12. Draw the same simple stroke each time and watch the pattern grow.
  4. Add a stamp (like a star) with symmetry on and see several appear at once in a ring.
  5. Use Undo to try a different starting stroke, then press TA-DA! to save your mandala.

  • What happened to your one line when you turned symmetry from 2 to 12?

Creative Sparks Studio & Gallery

Objective: Answer an open-ended Creative Spark by combining multiple tools intentionally, then complete, save, and reflect on the work in the Sticker Book β€” practicing brainstorming several approaches and presenting finished art.

Steps

  1. Read a Creative Spark (e.g., "Invent a brand new animal nobody has seen"). Tap New idea once or twice to compare Sparks, then choose one.
  2. Brainstorm two different ways you could answer it before you draw β€” jot or say them aloud.
  3. Pick a fitting scene, then combine tools on purpose: for example, the Galaxy brush for a body, Splatter for texture, and a custom color from the color wheel for details.
  4. Try turning on Magic symmetry for wings or markings to invent an effect you couldn't make by hand.
  5. Use Undo to revise anything that doesn't match your idea; adjust Size for emphasis.
  6. Press TA-DA! to save it to My Sticker Book (tagged with your Spark), then Download it as a PNG for a class gallery.

5 Capstone Rubric

Capstone task: "Make Your Own Magic Creature." Invent an original creature using WonderBrush. Encourage children to choose a scene, combine several tools, use color or symmetry with intention, finish and save the piece, and be ready to talk about their choices. This rubric describes growth, not "good vs. bad" β€” every artist is somewhere on the path.
